Returned Gifts
If a donor makes an ACH gift that is returned, the financial admin on your organization's account will receive an email notification with the gift details.
ACH gifts are usually returned if the donor entered the incorrect routing and/or account number. We suggest having the donor carefully re-type this information when they make their next gift!
Recurring Gifts that Fail to Process
Recurring gifts can fail to process for a few reasons. The credit or debit card on file may have expired since the last gift occurrence, or the card or bank account may have insufficient funds.
When one occurrence of a recurring gift fails, the donor will receive an email notification. Here is an example email:
Hi Sue,
Thank you for your continued support of Community Church through your $150 monthly recurring gift.
Unfortunately, we had trouble processing your scheduled gift today. We'll try again on [date of next gift] for your next scheduled gift occurrence. If we aren't able to process your gift on the second attempt, we will need to cancel your recurring gift series.
Some good news—you can easily edit your recurring gift details or update your payment information through the My Giving [link to manage My Giving] portal.
Thank you,
Community Church
We will attempt to process the gift series one more time (on the next occurrence), rather that immediately terminating the entire gift series. If a recurring gift fails a second time, the gift series will be canceled and the donor will receive an email notification that it has been canceled.
